Famous Novelist, Charles Dickens lived in Tavistock House between 1851 and 1860. This plaque commemorating him can be found on the wall, outside Tavistock House. Dickens wrote Bleak House, Hard Times, Little Dorrit and A Tale of Two Cities, at Tavistock House. He also put on plays and Tavistock House was said to be home of "The Smallest Theatre in the World." It was in this theatre that Dickens and Collins first staged The Frozen Deep, in 1857. (Source: Forster, II, 89)
